Of Slumdog Millionaire, Nando's and InkHeart!

Yesterday started out pretty interesting with my mum and I watching the movie Slumdog Millionaire. Winner of 4 Golden Globes including Best Picture and nominated for 10 Academy Awards!

It is a rag to riches story about an Indian orphan boy who ends up a winner on the show "Who Wants To Be A Millionaire" and his search for his lost love. Before watching the movie, I thought the movie would be about how his life changes AFTER winning the show, however the story reveals how he is able to answer each question on the show even though he is uneducated. The start of the movie shows how he is caught by the police and interrogated because he is suspected of fraud. They suspect that he has been cheating on the show as they do not think that a "slumdog" like him is able to answer all the questions correctly. Throughout the story, we are also told about the girl he's known from young and the struggles he goes through searching for her when he loses her. The lesson behind the story is that it tells you that you do not have to be a genius to know all the answers but you just have to pay a little more attention to the little things in life and that may reveal answers that you never thought you knew. Does that make sense? Anyway, you have to watch it to get the essence of the movie. Overall, a great watch and to me, the wins were well deserved.

After watching the movie, I met up with Miss-I-Love-Everything-Weird and Miss Saranghae in Gurney. We ate lunch at Nando's where we had a few interesting moments thanks to the "entertaining" waiters serving our food. To all future visitors of Nando's, watch for a very funny speaking Indian waiter who likes to run up the stairs and a real blur chinese waiter who I assume is still new as he gave us the change to a bill that was not even ours! hahaha...

Then we watched Inkheart starring Brendan Fraser, Helen Mirren and Paul Bettany.

This story is about Mortimer (Brendan Fraser), a Silvertongue, which means when he reads aloud, he can bring characters from books into the real world. However, what he didn't know was that when the characters from the book come into the real world, someone else has to go into the book. He realises this fact only after his wife has been sucked into the book after the evil characters from the book Inkheart is brought into the real world. So the movie is basically about his search for the book to bring his wife back and how he deals with the evil characters from the book that wants him. Interesting storyline but there was not much to grip the attention of the audience to the movie. The character Dustfinger, a fire juggler, played by Paul Bettany was the most interesting character, at least to me. Overall, not a bad movie though I think my fellow friends who watched the movie with me would probably beg to differ. hahaha....

So, my day started out well and ended well too. It was a great way to release all of the stress I had from my exams too. =)
