..........

I just came back from a funeral... Never thought that I would be ending my holidays attending a funeral...

The person who passed away was my granduncle. Some may say that a granduncle is considered a distant relative but we are a closeknitted family and to lose a granduncle, it's like losing your grandfather....

His death was an unexpected one as no one thought that a fall would end up with him passing away. He fell down on February 11th at home and was brought to the hospital. After more than 2 weeks of staying in the hospital, I got a call from my dad saying that he passed away and it wasn't even because of his fall!! It was a real shock for everyone.

We (the cousins) knew him as "Taiping" Tata as he used to stay in Taiping and even after he moved to Penang a few years agao, the name stuck as it was easier to identify him with that. As he was old, he could never remember any of our names and whenever we saw him he would always ask for our names and always ask whether we have eaten, etc every time. Even if he asked us five minutes ago, if he saw us again, he would ask the same questions but we would just play along and answer him as we knew he was old and it was also out of respect.

But the saddest thing of it all was watching my grandaunty face all this. We could understand the sadness she felt as she was in the hospital and was by his side as she watched him die. They were together for quite awhile and to lose someone you've been with for most of your life is never easy. Watching her today, sitting by his coffin, as she had her final "conversation" with him was just heartbreaking......

Even though it's hard watching someone die but it's always better for a person to go than to let them suffer in their old age, right? Death is part of the circle of life that everyone will have to go through and maybe, it was his time to go.....

May you rest in peace, Tata.........
