When you're feeling down or not in the mood, I always think that the best way to come out of it is to spend a few good hours engaged in an interesting activity with your friends or family.

In my case, I decided to go hiking with my best friends and sister. When my friend first suggested hiking to Monkey Beach and to the lighthouse at Muka Head, I was a bit sceptical as I knew I was a bit unfit to be hiking up and I was dreading the after effects of the hike but I thought why not because that's how you gain experiences and build memories, right?

So, sis and I woke up at 6.45am, got ready, picked up two friends on the way and headed to another friend's house who would be driving up to Teluk Bahang where the Penang National Park is located. This was our first hike together and our first time to Monkey Beach. We're generally not an outdoors kind of group and bearing in mind that we don't exercise much, this was indeed a challenge for us but it was a good bonding session/team building exercise for all of us.

The hike up to Monkey Beach was not too bad. The one that killed us was the hike up to the lighthouse! We almost wanted to give up halfway through as well! Thankfully, we also met a great bunch of people who so graciously helped us at a few difficult spots and even volunteered to walk behind us so that they could back us up and help us along the way (Big shout out to Ryan and the gang!!) !

Here are a few pictures from our trip up to Monkey Beach and the Lighthouse!
Overall, it was an interesting day for all of us and that few hours I
spent with some of my favourite people really took my mind off things
for a while. Sometimes, the simplest things in life can give you so much joy.

If you haven't been to Monkey Beach or to the Lighthouse at Muka Head, do try it out. If I can do it, you can too!
This year, I will be turning a quarter of a century. The big 25. Half of fifty. Wow.

At the start of the year, I was so sure that this was gonna be an awesome year for me. I found someone special, I was surrounded by a great group of friends, I had my family with me and life was good.

The only factor troubling me since mid last year was my job. 2014 started out great but in May, my life at work just went downhill. Almost everyone in my department left for better opportunities and I was left to carry the burden all by myself with some help from another colleague. November came, and that colleague also left and I was once again all alone.

Being in a department that focuses on fundraising for an organisation, it is certainly not easy trying to juggle the job scope of 3 people. I kept hanging on and told myself that things would fall into place. At the end of the year, we had two new recruits but sadly, even though I made one new good friend from that new recruits but alas, they too didn't last.

So, after months of juggling on my own and feeling unhappy with what I was doing, I made the bold move to step away from everything and handed in my resignation letter. I had reached that point where I was feeling burned out and taken advantage of. If you know me, I am certainly not the type to just give up on something (3 years in my first job!) and I always need a plan B but for me to have reached this point in my life, I knew I had no other choice but to move on.

It's coming to almost 3 weeks since I left my job and I have to say that I am happy that I left but as of late, with all this extra free time on my hand, I have been reflecting a lot on my life and where life is going to be taking me.

Have you ever felt like you don't know where you are heading in life and you just feel so lost? You don't exactly know what you want to do and what will make you happy? Well, that is exactly how I am feeling right now.

Coming from a mass communication background, I realise that I have so many options in front of me but I feel like I can't figure out what I want to do. I am still young and I have the future open wide for me and I know I should take this opportunity to explore every given opportunity. But, I feel like I have this fear in me that is making me doubt my capabilities. Being in the same job for the past three years also kept me in my comfort zone and now the thought of starting over in a new place and learning everything from scratch scares me a bit.

So, right now, I feel like I am drifting, unsure of where to go and what to do. As a result of these feelings, my emotions have been a bit haywire as of late. My friends have been super awesome trying to give me advice and telling me their experiences of how they were in similar situations before.

A few people have told me that an idle mind is the devil's workshop and I am starting to believe that to be true. I want to believe that eventually everything will fall into place but right now, it's hard to do that when all seem so lost.

I think right now, I just need to take a deep breathe, keep the faith and trust that God has bigger plans for me. The life or path you always envisioned yourself following takes an unexpected turn.

This bend in the road can either be a good one or it could be a bad one but no one truly knows. This unexpected turn could have happened consciously or unconsciously.

It's only the beginning of 2015 but already there has been so many unforeseen happenings in my life.

I do not know where life is going to take me but I know that God perhaps has bigger plans for me.

What is life if you don't take unexpected chances?

I just hope that taking the road less travelled will make all the difference for me.

My dad is the original member and lead guitarist of the legendary band called The Alleycats (if you haven't heard of them, please allow Google to educate you) while my mom comes from the well known jazz family of Malaysia, the Solianos.

I have truly been blessed to be born into this family with tremendous talent but sometimes it can also be a curse. You see, I don't think I inherited any of the musical genes that are apparent in both sides of my family.

Whenever people find out about my family, I am always asked, do you sing or play any instrument? My standard reply: "Unfortunately no. And I believe it is because positive + positive = NEGATIVE! :-(

So, the big question I always have about myself is this, do I have any hidden musical talent or is it just nonexistent? My family members have been very supportive in the sense that they always tell me that it is there but it just has not been honed.

I love music and I can't imagine life without music. Whenever I am bored, feeling depressed, angry or happy, I can always turn to music. And I somehow also have the ability to learn the lyrics of a song very fast!

Well, I guess only time will tell. I highly doubt that I will be a famous singer or musician, but while I slowly discover whether I have any hidden talents, I will enjoy the beautiful music and talent displayed by my family. And that was exactly what I did last Saturday night. :-) I had some of my family playing at The Canteen at Chinahouse last weekend and as a bonus, my dad even jammed with the band! So, here are some pictures to end the post:
*This has been in my drafts since the end of June! So, instead of storing it there, I've decided to publish this post. I apologise for the super late reviews on these movies which I can bet most of you would have already watched it! But, if you haven't watched any of these movies, I hope this helps a little!*

It looks like the month of June kick started my movie marathon for the year. Every year, my sister and I will ourselves that we should make the effort to go to the cinema and watch at least one movie every month. BUT, that unfortunately has not happen for the past few years. The only time I ever watch movies in the theater is usually when my friends come back for the holidays.

Nevertheless, it seems like 2014 has brought on a vast improvement in our "watching movies" efforts. What started the ball rolling was my sister's birthday.

If you also read my sister's blog (Shaks Thoughts), you would know that I was given the task of planning her BIG 29+1 birthday. In the plan, there were a few surprises and one of them was surprising her with the arrival of my aunt from Singapore. With that, a whole slew of events started. :-) If you wanna know more about what happened and whether my event planning skills was handy, just click on the link.

Anyway, first up on my movies list was:

1. MALEFICENT starring Angelina Jolie and Elle Fanning

My Verdict: *TWOTHUMBSUP* If you grew up watching Sleeping Beauty, you would know the storyline but this gave us a glimpse into how and why Maleficent became the "evil" queen. It all boiled down to revenge, hurt, hunger for power and the power of love. Angeline Jolie was also great in the role. A definite watch if you have not watched it yet.

2. EDGE OF TOMORROW starring Tom Cruise and Emily Blunt

My Verdict: It was okay. Entertaining and funny at some parts but I wasn't quite sure what to make of the ending. It's basically about a Social Officer in the Army who has never been in combat before as he has always been dealing with the PR image of the army. He is unceremoniously dropped into a combat mission and killed within minutes of being in it. He then finds himself in a time loop where he is forced into repeating the same combat mission each time he dies. The story continues as he tries to figure out what is going on. Oh and it involves aliens too. So, if you like action, Tom Cruise and aliens, this just might be your movie!

3. CONTRACTED starring Najarra Townsend and a host of other unknown characters

My Verdict: Don't watch it unless you get dragged into watching the movie like I did. A movie about this young woman who finds herself suffering from a mysterious sexually transmitted disease after she was raped at a party. As the movie progresses, it shows you how as each day goes by, the disease becomes worse. The type of disease is never explained in the movie even at the end. Would not recommend the movie unless you want to cringe in your seat each time you see some disgusting ting happen as a result of the disease.

4. TRANSFORMERS starring Mark Wahlberg, Kelsey Grammer and Stanley Tucci

My Verdict: Too long. Towards the end, I almost fell asleep! I still like Bumblebee and I thought Mark Wahlberg was quite "gaya" in the movie too. So, this is the 4th installment of the movie franchise and the movie continues following the disaster that happened in the 3rd installment. In this movie, most of the Autobots and Decepticons have vanished but there is still a group of powerful businessmen and scientists trying to recreate their own transformers. The story line for this movie is a bit complicated and the movie ends with a possibility for another installment. Once again, if you have been a fan of the Transformers franchise or you like action movies, then this would also be your movie!
I was browsing through my blog posts recently and came across the post below hidden away in my drafts folder which I had written just after finishing my final year and while I was searching for a job. I am not really sure what was bothering me at the particular time I wrote it but somehow, certain parts relates to how I am currently feeling at this present time. Hence, I am sharing this with all of you. :-)

There is always a time in your life where you have to make important decisions that will make an impact in your life somewhere along the line. The right choices will lead you down the right path but make a bad one, then beware of the consequences.

I've met people in my life who has made the right choices and some who has made really bad ones. Sometimes, for those who make the bad ones, I dont know whether to blame them for not really thinking it through or for being too naive and believing everyone and anyone except the people who matter the most.

I'm at the point in my life where it is time for me to make the next decision that will help pave the road for my future and even though I have made the decision, I suddenly find myself at a crossroad again. I have people telling me that I should take the risk and take a step into the unknown as it is the only way for me to know what will happen next rather than just staying under my own little shell. But circumstances around me has got me thinking otherwise about my decision. Do I stick to what I have decided or do i rethink my decision?

I've also met people who has made the wrong choices and as a result, the whole family suffers. These people tend to make the same mistake over and over again without learning from it. They tend to put more faith in others who do not know the situation but thinks they know what is best rather than listen to the ones who truly know the situation and is fighting to let their voices be heard. It makes the people who are fighting to be heard feel insignificant in the role they play.

The worse thing is that these people are also stubborn and thinks they know what they are doing. Yes, you may think you know what you are doing but after making the same mistake over and over again, do you really believe that you are capable of making the right decision once more? There comes a point in time where people will start to lose faith especially if the decisions made affects another person. This is because no matter how hard they try not to involve others in the consequences of their bad decisions, somehow, they will get involved as it affects their lives as well. Once you make the wrong choice, you will drag down the others who are dependent and look up to you.

Making choices especially the RIGHT choices is indeed important as making choices is what will carry you on to the next chapter in your life. In every chapter of your life, there is a part where decisions have to be made and the only thing you can do is make the right decision.

Till the next post,

Tomorrow marks 2 years since I took that giant leap into the working world. TWO YEARS! As cliche as this may sound, it really does feel like I just started working.

It's been an interesting two years working at St. Nicholas' Home, Penang. There has been ups, downs and everything you can think of.

I've met lots of wonderful people and been inspired by many as well, particularly the blind and visually impaired that I have been blessed to be able to work together.

I've gained so many valuable lessons in two years that sometimes, I feel like I've been working for 10 years. When you work at SNH, you are constantly on the move and you will definitely learn something new each and everyday.

Among the things that I have been blessed to do here at SNH includes interacting and working with the visually impaired, organising cycling & walking events as well as carnivals, emceeing for a crowd of 2000 people and the best thing of all is, meeting and working with a bunch of people that has kept me sane for the past 2 years and whom I can call friends. :-)

When I was job hunting, working in an NGO never really crossed my mind. I was open to everything but I always thought I would end up in the corporate world or maybe working in a hotel. Initially, Dad wasn't very keen with me working in an NGO but now after two years, I think he has accepted it.

People often wonder why at my age, I chose to start my career here. Well, honestly, it has been a good stepping stone and it has given me a good glimpse into the working world. I'm not sure how long I'll be here but one thing for sure, it'll be a place I'll never forget.

So, thank you SNH for two good (although stressful at times) years and let's see where this road will lead us next.

Till the next post,
A year ago, my friends and I decided to become “tourists”
and go on the famed heritage trail. This heritage trail has been getting a lot
of attention from visitors far and wide. These drawings by Ernest Zacharevic
gained national interest as it resonated well with the locals and foreigners. He was commissioned by the Penang Island Municipal Council (MPPP) in conjunction with the 2012 George Town Festival. The murals showcases exuberance of life in the inner city (http://www.penang-traveltips.com/).These drawings were drawing huge number of crowds every day, so my friends and I
decided check out what the buzz was all about.

On January 1st, my friends and I decided to celebrate the New Year on this heritage trail. After ushering in the new year at Gurney Plaza the night before, the 3 of us aka the Penang Charlie's Angels put on our "tourist" hats and followed the trail!

Our first stop was at Ah Quee Street, the "Boy on a Bike" mural. The mural is painted on the side door of an old shophouse with a motorcycle used as a prop. It depicts the story of the boy watching the traffic along the street. This painting is also adjacent to another mural called "Little boy with pet dinosaur".

The next stop was at Armenian Street where we took pictures with the "Little Children on the Bicycle" mural. As it was New Year's Day and a public holiday, there were already lots of people, tourists and locals alike, lining up just to take a picture with the mural. One good thing about having people in line is that they can also help you in taking group shots so that no one is left out of the picture! ;-)

Some of the murals are located within walking distances while for some of the other murals, you may need to rent bicycles as it is quite a distance to walk, but if you're up to it, why not?

Here are a few more pictures of the other murals:
It was indeed a fun and exciting trail. It gave us, the local Penangites, an opportunity to really discover what a true treasure Penang is. Seeing the amount of people going on this heritage trail also showed us how much Penang has to offer to the world. It's funny how a foreigner could capture the true essence of Penang behind each one of his murals.

Five years ago, I didn't really pay that much attention to the elections because for one, I was away at National Service and secondly, I was just not very interested.

When I turned 21, I registered as a voter and now, I truly feel involved and I feel like this time round, the campaigning from both sides have truly reached a fever pitch!

Being a first time voter, I was not very sure of who to vote because I have to admit, I was a bit divided. But, after reading the newspapers, watching the news and seeing the campaigning methods from both sides, I've finally made up my mind.

I truly feel that the voters from my generation will make a huge difference in deciding who wins the elections and seeing how involved we are becoming, I think it is safe to say, that the youths are now ready to speak up for themselves and for our country. We may be young but we know our rights and we know what we want to see and we know what we want for a better future.

So, to all the first timers out there, vote wisely and vote for who you believe in!

Signing off for now,
Pa-alam!

Back in high school, I became sort of obsessed and addicted to watching Pinoy dramas. It could be that I got this "addiction" because it is already in my blood or I probably inherited it from my grandma and mom who initially introduced me to the joy of Pinoy and Spanish drama series!

Anyway, after leaving school, somehow, I could no longer watch most of the drama series as the local channels started showing less Pinoy and Spanish dramas and started showing more Indonesian dramas, which were not so appealing to me. Hence, my love and obsession soon slowly started to die. But deep down, I still missed watching all this drama as it gave me the chance to escape from reality!

But thanks to Astro, I am now able to reconnect with my crush - Jericho Rosales! I was super upset when Astro Bella started showing Dahil May Isang Ikaw (DMII) starring Jericho and Kristine as I did not have the channel back then. Then as I started working, I decided to splurge on myself by subscribing to the channel when I found out they were going to show Pangako Sa Yo. :-) At that time, DMII had already concluded but as luck would have it, they started showing a re-run of the show at 12am every night and as crazy as this may sound, sis and I stayed up every night despite having work the next day!

I know it seems crazy to have a crush on a celebrity because the only reason that we like these celebrities is because of the characters they play in the movies/series. Like DMII, I would really like to have a "Miguel" of my own and maybe someday I will but till I find my very own "Miguel", I guess have to settle with day-dreaming about the fantasy Miguel. *sighs*

Jericho Rosales as Miguel in Dahil May Isang Ikaw

Anyway, getting back to the purpose of this post, I would just like to say that I am officially "crush-ing" on Jericho Rosales once again. :-D And since I am mostly at home these days because Sis is in Germany and parents are usually at the shop, it's nice to be able to escape from reality and just immerse myself in the romantic fantasies happening on TV instead of me focusing on being bored & lonely. =)
Since sister flew off to start her year of adventure with a 2-month adventure in Berlin, I've been on my own most of the time.

I don't get to see mom and dad often because when I wake up for work, they're still asleep and when I get home, they are at the shop. So it literally feels like I'm living alone.

I have to do the dishes, wash the clothes, fold the clothes, keep the house tidy, find my own food and just be independent. In a way, I think it is not only my sister gaining the experience but I am too.

Although my situation is different from hers as my parents are just a drive away if there is any problem, but this gives me a chance to stand on my own two feet and learn how to fend for myself and not rely on other people.

It really is a blessing to finally be able to drive on my own as well (although I still need help with my side parking) because now, I don't have to bother my parents to send and fetch me from work and I have the freedom to leave work whenever I want to. Looks like the push from work and sis helped!

Although it is nice having the house all to myself but it does get a bit lonely as I am so used to having my sister around. It really is a good thing that my housing area is not the super quiet kind of neighborhood! Nevertheless, it is nice having that little bit of freedom to do whatever I want (with the exception of sms-ing my mom whenever I'm out!).

Let's see though how I feel in a couple more weeks!
Today is the last day before my sister flies off to Berlin, Germany! As much as I will miss her during the next two months, I am also very happy and excited that she is getting this opportunity.

Of course, I feel a bit envious that she gets to go to Europe (and I've told her that so many times! haha!) but I know that one day, my time will come. Right now, it is her turn to explore the world.

2013 seems to be her year of adventure and who knows, maybe with all this travelling, she'll finally find someone! ;-)

So, to my dearest sister, here's wishing you a safe, exciting and joyous journey to Germany. Do not worry about home as I will hold down the fort while you are gone. :-)

Let this trip be the starting point of a wonderful year ahead for you and may this experience be a truly exciting and memorable one. Be ready to explore, immerse and just enjoy the different culture, weather, food, people and places. I'm sure you will have a rocking time over there.

And, if you do feel lonely, just remember that we are only just a phone call, skype, email, Facebook and sms away! :-D

BeforeI end this post, I would also like to thank you for the car that will be at my disposal for the next two months. Who knows, you might come back to a car that has eyelashes!! *evil laughter*

So, auf wiedersehen sister and I'll miss you! Take care and love ya lots always!! =) Muaks! <3>
In another 12 hours, it'll officially be Christmas! We are literally in the last week of the year and I just can't believe how fast 2012 just flew by.

I am quite proud of the number of things that I managed to accomplish this year but I'll leave that for another post to usher in the new year.

For now, let us all rejoice in the fact that we have survived the end of the world. Nothing major happened and we are all blessed to still be alive!

So, let us all enjoy this Christmas with everyone we love by our side.

Here's wishing you and your family,

You know how people make a bucket wish list of all the things they want to do before a certain age or before they die? Well, even though mine is not written down, I sort of have a wish list too.

One of that wish was to visit Singapore again as the last time I was there, I was only 4! This year, i struck that wish of my list! =)

When we were making plans, that wish seemed distant as I just started work and taking leave would be a problem. However, I think with God by my side, I was lucky enough that I managed to take a long break during Deepavali.

So, with the generous help of my Singapore parents, we were off the day after Deepavali. I was super excited because:

1. It's been 18 years since I visited Singapore
2. I haven't seen my Uncle Stephen, Uncle Maurice and Aunty Lita in years!

We were there for only 4 days and 3 nights but what a lasting impression Singapore made! Having great and loving company was also an added plus! =)

When we arrived, we were met at the airport by Aunty Lita and Aunty Esther (Gwen's mum). After sending Aunty Esther off, we took the train back to Toa Payoh. Uncle Stephen, who had to work, was so excited to meet sis and I that after he finished his shift, he rushed so that he could get on the same train with us!

After reaching home, we spent some time just relaxing and catching up before we headed to Orchard Road to take some pictures and to check out if the Christmas lights were already up. After a couple of hours, we headed home and spent the rest of the evening chit-chatting. Our highlight of day 1: The last few hours of the day where we just sat at home and talked. <3 p="p">

The next day, Uncle Stephen had the morning shift, so we girls had some breakfast at the morning market before we went to visit Grandma Grosse. Only in Singapore did I find out that there are people who enjoy eating duck head. Didn't try it but just the thought of it was enough to make me cringe!

After visiting Grandma Grosse, we went to visit Uncle Maurice. The last time I saw him was when he came down for one of my uncle's wedding and that was like almost 10 years ago. The first thing he said to me when he saw me: "Meding! What are you doing here?" Yes, I think we can already confirm that I am a carbon copy of my mum and there is no doubt whatsoever of me being her child.

From Uncle Maurice's house, I got to sit on my very first double decker bus! And we sat right at the front! That night, we visited China Town, Clarke Quay and Boat Quay. It reminded me of Penang's very own Straits Quay. Maybe SQ got the idea from Singapore, who knows?

Highlight of day 2: Can't really choose one because I enjoyed every moment of it! =)

Day 3 was a day that I was definitely looking forward to - UNIVERSAL STUDIOS!!! To ensure that we would not have to wait in a long line to buy tickets and to ensure that we would not be upset, dear Uncle Stephen got up super early so that he could be the first one to buy the tickets. Sis and I really had a blast seeing everything and just being awed by all. You could really see the amount of work, time and creativity that was used into making USS into what it is. We started off with the Steven Spielberg Live action sequence. It demonstrated to us what it was like being in the eye of a Level 5 storm. It was fantastic!
The first ride that I went on - The Red (Human) Battlestar Galactica roller coaster! Uncle Stephen was my partner. Sis is afraid of heights and roller coaster, so I was lucky to have Uncle Stephen by my side while Aunty Lita kept my sis company. The verdict? It wasn't so bad. I enjoyed it and we could even talk while it was moving!! The best part of it all, sis managed to get a picture of me and uncle Stephen on the ride!
Sis first ride at USS - The Egyptian Ride! And that was enough to keep her off any other roller coasters after that. Just look at her face after the ride was over!
Overall, I truly had a great time at Universal Studios Singapore. Though we missed some rides because of the long wait, it was definitely worthwhile. We went to the Far Far Away Land, Jurassic Park, Sci-fi City (Transformers), Sesame Street, Waterworld and even met a few Hollywood stars!

We spent almost 7 hours there but it didn't even feel that long because there is just so much to do! After the long and exciting day at USS, the day was still not over yet for us. We then headed over to the newest star of Singapore, MARINA BAY SANDS!

Seriously though, as beautiful as it was, I definitely need a rich guy in order for me to shop at one of the shops at Marina Bay or better still, I have to wait a few more years until I become a millionaire to be able to shop at Marina Bay. =)

Another first for me happened here in Singapore. I went into a casino for the first time and I actually won! =) We also saw an amazing laser light show at Marina Bay. With the fantastic Singapore skyline as the backdrop for the show, I couldn't help but be blown away by the show. It was truly breathtaking and the best thing of all, the show is free for everyone to watch!

After the light show, we made our way to the Gardens by the Bay. We didn't actually go there but we saw it from a distance and that is definitely on my list for the next time I visit Singapore again. We ended the day by heading to Orchard Road again as we found out from Uncle Maurice that all the Christmas lights would be up.

Highlight of day 3: Definitely USS! =)

The last day was spent visiting Grandma Grosse to say goodbye and also Uncle Jeff's mother. As we couldn't attend Uncle Jeff's funeral, we decided to pay his mum a visit and to offer our condolences.

Going to Singapore was something I never thought would happen this year. I always said that when I started working, we would put aside a travel fund and the first place we would visit would be Singapore. Now, that dream has come true and it is all thanks to these wonderful people in my life: Aunty Lita, Uncle Stephen, Mum and Dad.

It truly is a blessing being able to have two sets of parents who love us dearly and unconditionally. I couldn't have asked for more.

Thank you so much for a wonderful holiday and I look forward to our next holiday together!

Signing off for now,

Pa-alam!

I am officially a year wiser! It feels like it was so long ago when I was still in school and how we used to come up with crazy plans for birthday celebrations. The wacky things we used to do that created such wonderful, long-lasting memories for us.

This year, unfortunately, all my friends were away but nevertheless I still had my family and the "Angsana" family to rely on for a celebration. Though this year it was a quieter celebration but it was still a 3-day birthday celebration!

On Monday, I had my annual family birthday dinner. I took the family out for dinner at Chillis this year. Dad however didn't follow as he was not feeling well but it was a good dinner nevertheless. =)

The next day, the "Angsana" family had a barbecue for me. Dressed in my new dress (thanks to Robert Huah!), we had a feast of crabs, prawns, chicken, sausages, bihun and burgers! And when the clock struck 12am, I had a very delicious birthday cake topped with 22 candles!!

On the morning of my birthday, I had a mini treasure hunt around the house, courtesy of sister. After the treasure hunt I did for her on her birthday, she decided to do one for me as well. =) She actually told me she would buy a flourescent green velcro purse and what did she get me? Well, she got me a glittered blue velcro purse with the word Princess on it and I have to use it for a week!!

In the evening, I got my final gift from her. She bought a really nice Polo purse for me and I love it! May it always bring me cash! Lol!

We decided to go to Gurney to spend the day as we both took leave from work. As it was movie day as well, we decided to go watch Step-Up Revolution and we loved it! Ryan Guzman is hot!! =D If you're a big fan of dance movies and mobs, this is the movie for you!

Overall, it was a good birthday. I received calls from all my friends and family, near and far; Received birthday gifts from as far as Australia but most of all, I received and felt the love from everyone!

Thank you for all the calls, presents and love!! <3 p="p">

So, it looks like I've fallen into the trap of updating my blog only once a month. It's not that I don't have the time but ever since I started working, I don't feel like staring at a computer anymore after work and during the weekends because I think I've spent enough time staring at the computer during working hours!! The only reason I am online this Sunday is because sis and I are stuck at home with no transport!

Since my last post, I haven't done anything much lately. My routine has been: go to work, come back, go to shop, watch TV, etc. Nothing out of the ordinary.

The only highlight so far, has been meeting up with my brother Jared and his girlfriend, Gwen. They've been together for almost two years and we've never met. So about two weeks ago, they decided to drive down to Penang for a visit after attending a wedding in Ipoh. It was a really short weekend but it was really good to be able to just catch up and finally meet Gwen in person! =) Hopefully, there will be a longer holiday at the end of the year. =D

Besides that, it's been the same. Oh wait, except for the visit aboard Star Cruise Libra! I got the opportunity to attend a press conference for the Walk For Sight & Sound 2012 charity walk and because Star Cruise is one the main sponsors, the press conference was held on board Star Cruise. I didn't get the opportunity to explore the whole ship but just being able to go aboard and seeing it up close was kinda cool.

In the coming weeks, it looks like things might get a bit more hectic and I hope I don't get drown or loss under the workload. I'm also hoping to watch Step Up Revolution, due out this coming Thursday! And my birthday is also coming up!! =D

Well, till the next post,

pa-alam!! <3Vayshnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03650503702291075770noreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3019573773653318141.post-3901563014261209872012-07-02T13:41:00.000+08:002012-07-02T13:41:19.955+08:00The working lifeIt's been about a month since I last updated and since then, a number of things have changed. First big change, I am officially a working woman! Decided to follow my sister's footsteps and step into the world of the non-profit organisation.

When I was younger, I always had the dream of becoming a television VJ like on MTV or my dream job, to be working at E News and till now, that has not changed actually. I still have this dream of becoming one of the presenters of E News. Ask my friends and they'll tell you I'm not kidding!

However, being realistic (and also because there probably aren't any vacancies at E! Lol!), I decided to search for jobs closer to my home and came across this job vacancy at St Nicholas' Home. Now, I know most people would probably wonder why I decided to go with this job and not opt for corporate jobs.

Well, to me, I think this is a good place to start. It'll teach me lots of things. Working here for over a month has already been eventful. I've seen, heard and experience so many new things. It really makes me watch in awe how these visually impaired trainees go about their daily lives. They are so comfortable with their surroundings and they know the place perfectly like the back of their hands.

Working here has also given me the opportunity to work and meet with people from all over. I've met people from the Philippines, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Netherlands, Korea, Hong Kong and US.

So far, work has been okay. A lot of events coming up in the second half of the year so, let's see how everything goes.

Signing off for now,

Pa-alam!Vayshnahttp://www.blogger.com/profile/03650503702291075770noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3019573773653318141.post-48205333198901966422012-05-27T19:21:00.000+08:002012-05-27T19:21:25.861+08:00American Idol Season 11American Idol has crown their new winner and it is now officially over! We no longer have to schedule our routines around Thursday and Friday nights. So did your favourite win?

Unfortunately (or fortunately?) for me, two of my favourites ended up in the finale, Jessica and Phillip. I was very happy to see both of them in the finale but it also made me sad as I wasn't quite sure who to support!

Jessica had the voice but Phillip also had it! I loved his style and interpretation of songs. My parents were not fans of him at all, they were supporting Jessica while my sis and I were always backing Phillip.

For their final performance, I thought Jessica's last song did not do her justice but it did suit her age. Maybe a song like Note To God by Charice would have suit her better? I don't know. Let's see what her first single will be. As for Phillip, I thought he did ok but I would have liked it if he had perform Volcano for one of his performances. As for his single, it kinda reminded me of one of Coldplay's songs actually.

Nevertheless, I am still happy that he won. I think he is only the second person I've supported from the start who have the won show. The first was Kris Allen.

With this group being one of the best groups in a long time, I expected more from the finale result show. It didn't have much excitement for me. I did enjoy some of the funny moments like Jimmy Iovine's mistakes, the "phone book" singing, etc. The overall best performance of the result finale though had to be Jessica and Jennifer Holiday performing "And I am Telling You". You literally felt like you had to hold your breath while they sang! It was that good! After watching this performance, it kinda made me sad that a girl didn't win it this season!

Overall, I enjoyed this season. It was definitely way better than the last few seasons. Now, if they decide to have another new season, hopefully they'll have an even better pool of talent and I'm praying that it'll be slightly more interesting.

Signing off for now,
First of all, an overview of the movie. There’s this cube thing called the Tesseract that has some sort of gamma rays and it could be very harmful to the earth if it is not protected. However, Loki (brother of Thor) wants the Tesseract as it could help him rule the world. Hence, he steals the cube from Agent Nick Fury (Samuel L. Jackson) and now it is up to Agent Fury to bring together all the heroes to take back the stolen cube.

It was good as each of the character had a significant part to play in the movie and it did not come across like they were all just playing second fiddle to a main character.
I think by now almost everyone on this planet has heard of the Hunger Games. It has been breaking box office records for weeks! And, countless of interviews with the cast, the author and the fans of the movie and the books have been aired or printed in all major TV networks and print media.

The movie, which is based on the book of the same title by Suzanne Collins, tells the tale of Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) and Peeta Mallark (Josh Hutcherson) in a post-apocalyptic world whereby the world as we know it has been divided into 12 districts and is controlled by the Capitol aka the government/high society people.

Katniss and Peeta are from District 12, the poorest district. Every year, the Capitol organises The Hunger Games, in which one female and one male, called Tributes, from each of the district, will be selected to participate in the games and only one can survive. It is game where the children have to battle to the death in order to emerge as victor. When Katniss' sister, Prim, is selected, Katniss decides to volunteer in her sister's place in order to save her sister. Katniss also has a best friend, Gale (Liam Hemsworth), who agrees to protect her family while she is away or if anything happens to her.

Anyway, they are then whisked off to the Capitol to meet with the other Tributes and each team has their own mentors and stylist. Haymitch, the sole survivor of the Hunger Games from District 12, played by Woody Harrelson becomes Katniss' mentor and Cinna (Lenny Kravitz) becomes their stylist and sort of like a father figure and confidante for Katniss.

The Tributes of the 74th Hunger Games

So, basically, the movie is about how they both try to survive and emerge as the winner of the 74th Hunger Games while also fighting feelings that soon develop between the two main characters.

Overall, it really was an entertaining movie even though it started off quite slowly in the beginning. One disturbing fact was how sadistic the game master in the movie was. The game master basically manipulates the Games in order to add in excitement for the viewers of the Capitol without any thought of how the people in the Games are only children. Of course, when they killed each other, it was done/filmed in fast motion so as to avoid the gory-ness and the fact that they are still children!!

There were a few "awwwww" and "jump-out-of-the-seat" moments as well. For those wanting to watch the movie only because of Liam Hemsworth will be disappointed as there wasn't much of him at all. Probably in the next two sequels, he'll play a more prominent role. Though there was not much of screen time for Lenny Kravitz, he did a pretty good job and gave a lasting impression. I hope there is more of him in the next movie.
For me, it lived up to all the hype surrounding the movie and I am definitely looking forward to the sequel, Catching Fire. After the movie, I actually googled the following books to find out what happens next! =)

So, if you haven't jumped onto the bandwagon yet, I suggest you hurry and catch this movie before it is taken out of the cinema!
This post is not meant to offend or hurt anybody but are just my views and opinions.*

Just a few days ago, I was reading the April issue of the Astro Guidebook and came across an interview with a news reporter from Singapore.

The reporter said some things in the interview that got to me and as I continued to read on, I found more evidence to make me dislike her. Now, I may not know her well enough to judge nor have I met her in person because for all I know she could be completely different, however, that interview was enough to create a not so favourable impression for me. And I have my sister and mom who share the same opinion as me.

One of the questions that was asked was "What would she asked Kim Kardashian is she ever got the chance to interview her?". Her answer? She said she would ask "how can people with no discernible talent or opinion is able to attain such a celebrity status. And she would ask whether there was a cushion behind that back of hers". When I read this, I immediately thought of Barbara Walters. This is because Ms Walters already asked Kim that question live on TV!! And it was all over the entertainment news network! Did you not see or hear it?

Also, according to the reporter, the worst movie ever made was James Cameron's Titanic! She said "the script was bad, the acting was bad and the CGI was bad". If it was so bad, the movie would not have won the ten Academy Awards they were nominated for. For someone being able to do such a movie on such a large scale at a time where movie graphics were still slowly progressing, is considered quite good to me. I would understand if people do not like the movie because it has been over commercialised but to criticise the workmanship of the movie? I do not approve.

Lastly, her opinion on skinny jeans. The reporter said that she hates skinny jeans and that only Kate Moss or severely malnourished people can wear it and no one else looks good in them. I beg to differ. I have seen countless of HEALTHY people, wearing skinny jeans and pulling them off. Even my sister and I wear skinny jeans and we're not severely malnourished! I believe that people should wear whatever they want to wear without having anyone to judge how they look. We should be comfortable and confident in whatever we put on and not care about what others say.

I've always been self-conscious about the way I look as I 've always been thin. And I am thin because of my genes and not because I don't eat. As a matter of fact, I love to eat! After being self-consicous for so long, I've finally decided to do whatever and wear whatever I want. Like my mom always says, if you want to wear something, wear it with confidence and people will see that confidence and not what you wear or how thin you look.

Therefore, I would like to say that as much as I respect people having their own opinions on things and for them to have respect for my own opinions, I don't think that people should bring others down and discredit others and I felt like this interview may have done that a bit.

So, I guess what I'm trying to say is that no matter how important or famous you may be, I think it is important to pay attention to whatever that is happening around you and to realise that whatever you say, may hurt or strike a bad chord with someone else.

I'm not sure if what I've written may have offended or hurt someone else but if it has, I sincerely apologise.

Signing off for now,

Music festivals are something that I've always liked to attend even though I've only had the opportunity to attend a few. So, when I heard that there was going to be a World Music Festival right here in Penang, I was super excited. However, upon hearing the price of the tickets, I was a bit upset as I thought it was a bit expensive for me and I almost gave up on attending the festival.

However, as luck would have it, Trish's boss got hold of a few tickets and gave it to her and she graciously asked my sis and I whether we wanted to go. I immediately said yes! =)

The crowd when we arrived

So, the whole gang for Friday night was Trish, her friend, Raghu, sis and I. We arrived there around 7 plus and the first act after the CM's speech was already on. It was a bhangra group. I thought the stage set-up was quite good as they had set-up two stage side-by-side which enabled one group to set up their instruments while waiting for the other group to perform their set. This also helped to reduced the audiences waiting period.

The next act was a local act from Negeri Sembilan called Rentak Balai. They had an interesting sound with people dancing in traditional costumes .I never knew NS had music like that. It actually reminded me more of Sarawak and Sabah. So, that was something new that I learned from the festival.

Rentak Balai from Negeri Sembilan

After Rentak Balai was the Phong Nguyen Ensemble from Vietnam. Phong Nguyen is a renowned ethnomusicologist from Vietnam and he has even received an award from the former President of the United States, Bill Clinton. They played a variety of folk and traditional Vietnamese songs from the north right up to the south. They also treated the audience to music from a variety of bamboo instruments. It was interesting to listen to the different sounds but after a while, it got a bit boring as the music was really slow and it started to sound a bit repetitive.

The next act was from New Zealand, Will Crummer and the Rarotongans. It was a family of musicians from the island of Rarotongan. They had a more Hawaian/Tahitian feel to their music. One interesting fact that I learned from all the musical acts is that in almost all their sets, they had a song about a girl or a guy falling in love and wating for their loved ones to come back. There was at least one song with that message in every performance!

Following the New Zealand act was the musical act from Belgium called the Griff Trio. Surprisingly, this trio played bagpipes. I found that surprising as I always associated bagpipes to the Scottish. However, this Belgium trio further proved me wrong by clarifying that bagpipes actually came from India!! And it is made out of goat skin! For me, even though they had interesting facts to tell us, I found them a bit boring as their music started to become repetitive as well. Except for the last part where they got everyone to sing a song called "How many goats will be left?" Yup, I'm not kidding, that was the song and it had a very addictive tune that will make you remember it for a long time to come. =D

After the Belgium trio, it was the duo from Australia called Wild Marmalade. I was fascinated with this group. With only a didgeridoo and a drum set, they somehow manage to achieve the sound of a full band! It was interesting to see someone playing the didgeridoo live and for him to be able to make several different sounds on it was remarkable! It looks like he's just blowing into it but the sounds that come out of it was great! Interesting fact 2: I heard somewhere that women in Australia are not allowed to play the didgeridoo because it will affect their fertility!

Hard to think that I first had this blog in 2008 and it's already 2012! That means, come June 29, my blog will be four years old!!

Anyway, while I was randomly going through my blog posts, I noticed that I have received quite a few comments on various posts and I've actually not answered back to some of the comments!

I'm not sure if the people who commented have come back since then but if you have and I have not replied your previous comments, I would like to say, I'm sorry!!

I would also like to say Thank You for the comments and I've enjoyed reading all of it again. Please do keep commenting as I love hearing opinions from others as it gives me newer perspectives and also helps me to improve. =) Also, thank you for reading what I have to say! =)

That is basically the storyline of the romantic movie, The Vow. Ever since I saw the trailer of the movie last year, I knew I had to watch the movie. Being a hopeless romantic when it comes to books and movies, it was only natural that I watch the movie regardless of the negative reviews the movie got. Also, knowing that Channing Tatum would play the lead only reconfirm my need to watch the movie. =)

Overall, I would say I enjoyed the movie. It really is the typical romance story with some cheesy lines and "in the rain" moments that would make any girl melt. Knowing that it is inspired by a true story also made the movie a bit more believable. Of course, I realise that not all the events that happened in the movie also happened in real life for the couple who inspired the movie.

Anyway, as much as I enjoyed the movie and the cast, I still felt like the movie lacked a certain something. I would have liked to see Leo (Channing Tatum) fight more or woo Paige (Rachel Mcadams) to win her back. I did feel kinda sad for Leo when you could see that he didn't fit into the life Paige used to have before he married her.

Sam Neill and Jessica Lange, who played Paige's parents, also did well as the upper class parents who would do anything to try and get rid of Leo from Paige's life.

Therefore, I would recommend that you watch this movie only if you're a hopeless romantic like me and if you're a fan of Channing Tatum or Rachel Mcadams. I felt like the two of them played their parts really well and were probably the pull of the movie.

Oh yeah, for the real couple, the wife never got back her memory but are now still happily married and has two children. How do you top that? =)

Now I feel like I should probably read the book. =)

Signing off for now,
